With the solstice on Friday, we are officially into summer and I am loving these long beautiful sun filled days. With a milestone birthday coming up next month, the concept of time has been on my mind a lot lately. The solstice feels like a natural shift in time, in energy and in the natural world. In some ways, summer also feels like a natural time to shift gears, explore and pay attention to the things that we may have set aside during the darker and colder months. For me, that means revisiting some of the goals set at the New Year, namely being more intentional with my time.
Reducing screen time has been a major goal over the last year and on Saturday, I spent some time deleting social media apps on my phone, blocking a few time suck websites, and in general preparing for a screen time detox. Any habit guru will tell you that the best way to remove an unwanted habit, is to replace it with the habit you’d like to pick up. So, I’ll hopefully be replacing doom scrolling with lots of chess and writing more.
If you’re like me and fell off of the wagon of healthy habits, missed the train on those new year’s resolutions, or just need a little motivation to start something new, now is the perfect time! It’s not too late! We still have 6 months to make those changes we’ve been looking for.
