When I first started out as a Sports Therapist, my clients were athletes struggling with sports injuries. One particular client still sticks out vividly. They’d done all of their doctor’s appointments, all of their PT sessions, showed up weekly for Sports Therapy and Pilates. They were physically active, used a standing desk and seemed to be doing all of the right things. While these things alleviated their back pain, NOTHING could get rid of it completely.
After weeks of trial and error, fishing around for ideas and deconstructing all of their workout postures, we stumbled across the fact that this person slept in a full spinal rotation every night!
To make matters worse, their husband stacked his leg on top of my client’s stacked and rotated legs!
8 hours of spinal rotation with a pinned load! Once we found the culprit, we worked on retraining sleep patterns from a full side rotation to side sleeping.
Within weeks, the extreme back pain was gone. Sometimes, no matter how hard we work on postures during the day, what we do at night can hold us back and wreak havoc on our bodies!
